Cosmetics
PEF for cosmetics production
Product examples: Rose oil, patchouli oil
Aim PEF treatment: Cell disintegration, reducing distillation time, distillation at moderate temperatures
Rose oil
By enhancing mass transport, PEF treatment of roses soaked in water leads to a reduced temperature and distillation time and improved distillation efficiency, and to a higher yield of rose oil. The physical treatment enables a moderate temperature extraction process enhancing oil quality, compared to the standard high temperature thermal treatment. Energy consumption is also reduced. Appropriate field strengths range from 1.0 to 4.0 kV/cm and the energy delivery is 10 to 20 kJ/kg.
Patchouli oil
Patchouli oil is an important ingredient of perfumes and cosmetics. More information, see: Patchouli oil
Benefits PEF
- Increased oil extraction yield
- Higher distillation process efficiency
- Improved oil quality
- Lower energy consumption
