PEF for Cosmetics Production

Product Examples: Rose oil, patchouli oil.

Aim of PEF Treatment: Cell disintegration, reduced distillation time, distillation at moderate temperatures.

Rose Oil

PEF treatment of roses soaked in water enhances mass transport, leading to reduced temperature and distillation time, improved distillation efficiency, and a higher yield of rose oil. This physical treatment facilitates moderate temperature extraction, enhancing oil quality compared to standard high-temperature thermal treatments. Additionally, it results in lower energy consumption. Suitable field strengths for this process range from 1.0 to 4.0 kV/cm, with energy delivery between 10 to 20 kJ/kg.

Patchouli Oil

Patchouli oil is a key ingredient in perfumes and cosmetics. For more information, see: Patchouli oil

Benefits of PEF

  • Increased oil extraction yield.
  • Higher efficiency in the distillation process.
  • Enhanced oil quality.
  • Reduced energy consumption.
