PEF for water treatment

Product examples: Water treatement, waste water treatment, processing water treatment

Aim PEF treatment: Cell disintegration, microbial inactivation, enhanced liquid solid separation, industry water reuse

Volume reduction

Application areas of PEF include sludge disintegration. PEF treatment helps to reduce the volume of solids in wastewater that has to be disposed of. Moreover, the rupture of cell walls of biosolids increases the methane production by anaerobic digestion, PEF processing of wastewater biosolids also inactivates pathogens. The decontamination of municipal and industrial waste water increases water reuse in industry.

Benefits PEF

  • Reduced water and energy consumption
  • Waste reduction
  • Higher methane production
  • Increased water reuse
  • Continuous process and quick treatment technique
  • Small equipment footprint, quick start up of the process
  • Low energy requirement
  • Scalable equipment to both low and high volumes

More information

For decontamination purposes of liquids (microbial inactivation) PEF is applicable to pumpable products with a particle diameter of less than 20 mm. For cell disintegration purposes (tissue softening) there are no size limitations for the raw products.
Pulsemaster has developed industrial scale equipment – named Conditioner – with treatment capacities up to 5,000 l/h (1320 US gal./h) for microbial inactivation and up to 50,000 kg/h (110,000 lb/h) for cell disintegration.
